How time flies! It was Valentine Day 2016 I published my very first article on Askauntygrace. It is clear that I’m not cut out to be a blogger, but I guess, I could write uplifting stories when I have the chance to! The Agony letters I used to receive trickled down and almost stopped coming . I was told people are shy and do not want to be identified by the partners they complain about in their letters to me(though we don’t post the real names of the writers. )
Be assured that If I get an agony letter, I’ll do my best to reply.

Today is Valentine Day, a day for love, for spreading love (and please don’t go spreading it where it will get you in trouble!)
Valentine s Day, or St Valentine Day, is also called “ Lovers Day” when people traditionally show their love and affection for their loved ones by sending them gifts that can be as endearing as they can be expensive. Some go to great lengths to make Valentine day special Planned dinners, gift of cars , and more common, marriage proposals accompanied by flashy engagement rings all signify hearts fluttering with butterflies and excitement.
Methods of proposals can also be as creative as they can be surprising.
I was in the movie theater one evening on Valentine Day, waiting to watch a highly advertised movie . I sat in my usual seat at the back watching others come in and take their seats.
There was this young guy however ,who seemed restless . He would go out , come right back and then lean over the railing and peep at the entrance . Then he would come back and sit down – right in front of me! Just when I made up my mind to tell him to please stay still as the movie was about to start, an usher walked in with a lady flashing a tiny flashlight to show her the way. She sat right beside the young restless guy who seemed flustered as he brought out his handkerchief and wiped his forehead. Precisely at that moment, the house lights went off. Oh good, I thought , the movie is about to start.
Then a male usher stood in front of the screen with microphone in hand and said “ ladies and gentlemen, lend me your ears” “oh my God ,I thought, what’s all this about? Lend me your ears? Are we about to watch a Shakespearean play in the theater ??
There were a few whistles and shouts of “ Start the movie! Start the movie!”
The guy, seeing that the audience was not in the mood to listen to anything he had to say, quickly disappeared as suddenly as he had appeared. The screen lit up and with eyes glued to the screen , the audience was surprised to read the words on the screen “ Jo Jo will you marry me? I love you. John”
The the house lights came on and the young man in front of me stood up, brought out a ring from his pocket, and turned to the girl beside him ( and on bended knees too- yes both knees!) he said ( holding out the ring)
”Jo jo please say yes! Wil you marry me?”
I didn’t know when I blurted out” yes ! Yes!! She will marry you!”
One guy two seats away from me , with a look that said mind your damn business, said to me “ madam he wasn’t talking to you!”
Ridiculous! I know he wasn’t taking to me but I was caught in the excitement of the moment.
The girl got up, held out her hand and shouted for all to hear “ Yes darling, yes I will marry you now and forever!” Then she burst into tears.
I had come to watch a love movie ( it was Valentine Day) but this show of love blew me away and I wish that more men will be more creative and just take that much trouble to do ordinary things in such extraordinary ways! I was impressed!
St Valentine’s Day is popularly believed to have gotten the name from a famous Saint, a Priest from Rome.
In the third Century AD Emperor Claudia 11 had banned marriages because he thought married men were bad soldiers but Valentine felt it was unfair so he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. When Claudia found out ,Valentine was thrown into jail and sentenced to death. While in jail,he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and when he was to be killed on February 14th, he sent a love letter to her signed ‘from your Valentine ‘
February 14th became a day for lovers to celebrate their love for each other.
So HAPPY VALENTINE DAY Y’ALL. Stay safe!
